Burn Ban in Effect for the Town of Clinton

By West Clinton Fire District
October 28, 2024

Attention Town of Clinton Residents:

*Update: The Burn Ban has been cancelled effective November 30, 2024.*

-------------------------------------------

Town of Clinton Supervisor Michael Whitton has declared a State of Emergency effective October 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. due to severe drought conditions and the increased threat of wildfires caused by outdoor burning. This proactive measure is in place to protect the health and welfare of all Town of Clinton citizens. The order will remain in effect until conditions are deemed safe by Supervisor Whitton in conjunction with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation.

We thank Supervisor Whitton for taking this important step. Not only does it help protect the citizens and properties in the Town of Clinton, but it also strengthens the response capabilities of the two fire departments in the town by allowing volunteer members the ability to leave work and respond to emergencies related to this order. According to NYS Labor Law Section 202-L, our members can now request a leave of absence from work when called upon to respond to such emergencies within the Town of Clinton.

Chief Dingee will work with members to ensure that proper documentation is available to present to their employers, ensuring compliance with the law. We encourage all employers to familiarize themselves with these provisions to support our volunteer firefighters in their vital role.

Please Note: As of this announcement, this order applies specifically to the Town of Clinton. We are committed to keeping our community safe and will provide updates should there be any changes or if similar declarations are made in the Town of Hyde Park.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
